HAND KNITTING
YARN
The most popular thickness for hand-knitting is 8/8 cotton (d.k., worsted weight) because the project goes faster. For summer garments use 4/8 (4 ply fingering) or 2/5 mercerized cotton and for lacey tops try our 2/8 regular or mercerized cotton.

SIZING
Cotton shrinks when washed. So a proper tension swatch is the key to a successful project (the bigger the better). Sample swatch should be washed the same as the finished product. Do not stretch the test swatch before measuring. Our experience showed vertical shrinkage only. Our test swatches became shorter but not narrower. So knitting the garment a size larger will not result in an accurate fit. (See Conversion charts for details.)

WASHING INSTRUCTIONS
We recommend machine washing in warm water using good quality detergent (No Bleach). Machine dry on medium setting.
Yarn softens nicely after washing.
For first washing wash separately using lots of water.

MACHINE KNITTING
YARN
The most popular thickness for machine knitting is 4/8. For a different look try our mixes and slub cotton yarns. Mixes are created by twisting together three strands of one colour and one strand of another colour. Slub cotton is created by three strands of one colour and one strand of either bleached or natural slub yarn. The result is a yarn with a different texture.

SIZING
For the Standard /Fine gauge machine use our 2/8 or 4/8 cotton, or try 2/5 mercerized cotton for a brilliant sheen. Start at tension 8-9 and tighten (lower) as necessary to desired stitch size.
For the Mid gauge machine use our 4/8 or 8/8 cotton yarns.
For the Bulky /Chunky gauge machine use our 8/8 cotton. Start at tension 8-9 and tighten (lower) as necessary to the desired stitch size.
When finding the right tension keep in mind the shrinkage because after washing and drying the knit will tighten and you may end up with a garment that will be too stiff.

WASHING INSTRUCTIONS
See hand knitting above.

CROCHETING
YARN
For crocheting fine doillies try our #12, #8 or #5 Perle cotton. For placemats try our 2/8 and 4/8, and for crocheted blankets use 8/8 cotton.
